Out of four pages i.e. One whole leaf of the newspaper, only one-fourth was devoted to such gossips and rest three-fourth was for intellectual or socio-spiritual articles, short stories and series by budding or established writers, poetries, and kids' section including Chacha Chaudhary cartoon series, jokes, puzzles and many more games. It was enough entertainment for my innocent mind. It was the same for Tv Channels or Channel rather. Wednesday's and Friday's Chitrahar and the Sunday evening movie was all we used to know of Bollywood. Yes, there were Filmfare and Filmikaliyan as well but Dd in case,granted us with a lot to talk for the whole week.

That's where present day news channels and papers are capitalizing. We strive to know about the insights of celebrities' personal lives. We want to be like them and to an extent effect them, sometimes blindly. Now we don't talk, we don't share our thoughts and emotions; there is no vent for our urge to express. It is just one-way traffic. We have come to be a garbage for all the reporting rubbish. We are just listening. It's a good habit, no doubt, but what about expression? But when we hear 24x7, silly news on Amitabh Bhachan's superstitious ritual of marrying Aishwarya Rai with a Banyan tree in order to save his son from her Manglik effect, it's too much to digest.

India is a country which still is in its nascent stage of development. It's a transition duration and too much is happening too fast. There is Kalahandi here and Colaba as well. These places differ like light and darkness. India can afford this but Bharat can't. Bharat still needs krishi darshan, fauji bhaiyon ke liye, Iodine namak, school chalien hum and jachha-baccha tika-karan karykram. We need to enhance the living conditions of more than half of our population and to this mass, Bollywood is nowhere, even in their distant dreams. They want an mean potential life and Bollywood gossips are of no good to them.

The media has to understand its collective responsibilities- there is much more than sting operations and Bollywood. There are many channels totally devoted to Bollywood news. So the so-called news channels must stick to the hardcore news. The current trend is an insult to journalism and reporting. Stop this!

Reading about how scrapbooking is one of America's very most popular hobbies has given me pause to reflect on how many things you could create a scrapbook about.

The Day a "Tidal Wave" Hit Chicago

"Giant tidal wave hits local town lake." April Fool's joke? Probably. "Giant Tidal Wave Hits Chicago." Joke, right? No. This was the headline of the afternoon edition of the Chicago Daily News on June 26, 1954.

I left the house in my beat-up Chevy at around 9:00 a.m. On a warm Saturday morning in June 1954 and drove uptown to Lake Michigan's Montrose Beach and harbor to meet my father and some friends at the Wilson Rocks Bait Shop where he hung out with his fellow fishermen. We were going to do some Perch fishing......which is a chewy white meat fish that is a taste of Heaven when deep fried and served with, lemon, tartar sauce and accordion fries. Getting ready for my final year in high school, I had been working a hard building job and was in need of some sun and relaxation. Perch were the respond this Saturday morning, but I would soon find something quite different......something that I would never forget.

As I pulled into the parking area, I noticed it was full of water despite it being a exciting sunny day. The Lake was unusually choppy. I also noticed people running toward the pier. There was a sense of something very serious and very bad going on and immediately and instinctively I headed for the bait shop to join together with my father. He saw me arrival and said "let's go to the pier, they need help down there," and we took off at full speed along with many others. A Seiche (pronounced saysh) had struck Montrose Harbor without warning on this June morning. It was 8 feet high and 25 miles wide and hit Chicago's entire lakefront......from Michigan City, Indiana to the North Shore. Eight people were killed, most of whom were fishing right there in Montrose Harbor where about 15 or 20 fishermen were swept off the narrow, 175-foot concrete pier. And we knew many of them.

The Day a "Tidal Wave" Hit Chicago

When we arrived, bathers and fishermen were running for cover. Men, women and children scurried and fell. Yachts bobbed widely in the water. The wave at some points had rushed 150 feet inshore before subsiding in a few minutes which explained why I saw so much water as I pulled into the parking lot. There were rescues, panic, despair, and narrow escapes. Unfortunately, we were too late to be of any real help and then stood by helplessly as the the recovery teams began the grim job of pulling each body from the lake. Apparently, fishermen who had been lying on their stomachs, idly guiding lines in the water, were plainly swept off the pier as the water swelled up and washed over them. Fishermen on the North Avenue pier, some miles to the South, were also swept into the lake, and the same grim work was being done there. Among those hurled into the water was Ted Stempinski, who had been fishing with his son Ralph, 16. Ralph left the scene for a occasion shortly before the wave struck. When he returned his father was gone. The same thing happened with John Jaworski who also was fishing with his son. Those tragic facts hardly went unnoticed and stayed with me for a long time after.

News of the oncoming wave was spread fast by park police who cleared fishermen from a pier at 61th St. In Jackson Park minutes before the water submerged that area. At Loyola Beach just North the waves broke over a 9-foot seawall. All the docks at the Belmont Harbor yacht basin were flooded when the wave raised the water level there about 6 feet.

Prior to June 26, nobody had ever heard of the word "Seiche." After June 26, most of us were experts on the phenomena.
Specifically, "A Seiche has to occur in an enclosed body of water such as a lake, bay or gulf. A Seiche, a French word meaning "to sway back and forth", is a standing wave that oscillates in a lake as a consequent of seismic or atmospheric disturbances creating huge fluctuations of water levels in just moments. The standing waves slosh back and forth between shores of the lake basin, often referred as tide-like changes of the Great Lakes, by many. Most seiches on the Great Lakes are results of atmospheric disturbances and a cease in wind, not seismic activity or huge tidal forces" ( Heidorn 2004; Wittman 2005).

This singular Seiche, which was the most hazardous of the three kinds, was fueled by a severe squall line with high winds and rapid changes in atmospheric pressure that pushed down on the lake's face and crossed southern Lake Michigan a few hours earlier, passing from northwest to southeast. It's as if you dropped a stone in the middle of a bucket of water and watched the ripples move from the center. The atmospheric pressure caused be the squall was the stone and the ripples were the Seiche. Like water sloshing back and forth in a bath tub, fast-moving squall lines with intense atmospheric pressure caused the lake to slosh back and forth and water levels to rise on the coast and harbors by up to 10 feet in a matter of minutes and with no warning.

Unlike a tsunami, which can voyage across the open ocean at very high speeds, a Seiche moves much more slowly. It took 80 minutes for the Seiche to voyage 40 miles from Michigan City to the Chicago lakeshore at North Avenue. That's about 30 mph. The Seiche Struck the entire Illinois coast with a wave about 2 to 4 feet high, but it reached a maximum height of 10 feet as it approached the North Avenue pier.

As an eye inspect to the immediate aftermath, I was taken aback by the way in which the Chicago papers over-dramatized the tragedy. The Chicago Daily News, now defunct, ran headlines that read in two inch black lettering: "Big Tidal Wave Here! Many Swept Into Lake; Fear 10 Killed. Mom of 11 Among Victims. 3 Divers, Boats Hunt Others. Three persons were drowned and some more were feared lost Saturday when a 25-mile-wide tidal wave smashed the Lake Michigan shore here. The freak wave, estimated from 3 to 10 feet high, struck at about 9 a.m. From Jackson Park north to Wilmette. An undetermined number of persons were swept into the lake. Estimates of the death toll ran as high as 10......." There had been no "big tidal wave;" there had been a freak and deadly Seiche. Since then, there have been numerous scares and reports of smaller seiches, but none that caused similar damage or deaths.

Interestingly, however,one of the greatest disasters in the city of Buffalo, Ny's recorded history occurred at 11 p.m. October 18, 1844 when a wall of water fast inundated the market and residential districts along the waterfront. The disaster occurred without warning, breaching the 14-foot seawall and flooding the waterfront. Newspaper accounts indicate that 78 people drowned. This tragedy was also caused by a Seiche, as prolonged strong winds produced a Seiche by pushing the water toward one end of Lake Erie. When the winds stopped, or shifted to the opposite direction, the water moved back in the direction from which it came and the Seichedid the rest. It is estimated that Buffalo has two or three seiches a year, but the threat has been largely eliminated by building a breakwater in Lake Erie, a scheme that started in the 1860s.

Unlike devastating Tsunamis caused by underwater earthquakes, seiches have never caused much damage in the Great Lakes, and most go unnoticed since they are relatively subtle and imperceptible, causing water levels on beaches to rise just a foot or less.

But this one was very perceptible and occurred on a calm and warm Saturday morning in Chicago. What started as a day of peaceful fishing turned out to be an touch that has remained indelibly in my mind and, I believe, worthy of a sharing. One thing is for certain, we will never touch a Seiche here..........at least I don't think so.

Bramhi (Brahmanandam) lives above Shruthi's house, and frequently tries to convince Shruthi to marry him. Sub inspector Pashupathy (Ashish Vidyarthi), is a corrupt officer in the colony where Pandu and Shruthi live who often works with the land mafia. He is also on the payroll of Ali Bhai. He falls for Shruthi and decides to make her his mistress. Pandu's first assignment with Ali's gang is to kill a member of Narayan's band. El Duce or How I Came to Hate Mussolini

First, this article was not my idea. It was recommend by my daughter-in-law. I said, "L, give me a incorporate of article ideas." She view the way she does all the time and ultimately said, "You know, I would like to know about Mussolini."

The presume she wants to know about El Duce is that she learned dinky about him in her youth, yet he is in the background of her mind. "I would like to know more about him," she said.

El Duce or How I Came to Hate Mussolini

I've read all the best books about Hitler but they add dinky to the brain of one "Who Was There."

In 1939 at the time when German forces invaded Poland, I remember walking with my older Brother, A, and his friends. It was a warm fall evening and the moon was out and what they said scared me to chilling death. And when watching a skit at the church (our cultural center), the site of storm troopers stomping into a home with dinky children, threatening them with bayonets, and taking their books and burning them, I knew that Hitler was a bad man indeed. (Books were everything to me. I lived in the library.)

Now let's see. In 1939, I was seven years old.

I learned about Japan on December 7, 1941. On hearing that our navy was practically wholly destroyed at Pearl Harbor, my cousin and I incredible to see Japanese aircraft in the blue sky overhead at any minute. Chilled again!

I was now practically ten years old. That is when I first heard the name, Tojo. He was in all the cartoons. We learned to hate Tojo for sure. We blamed for everything taking place in the Pacific on Tojo.

I recently read a book about Tojo and his trial after World War Ii. I fulfilled, that we should not blame him for all the atrocities of that war. Tojo told the tribunal that we should blame the field commanders. Anyway, he was put to death when he could have remained a great source of historical information. He was the only bad guy left. He wasn't a threat to whatever and a exquisite gentleman. I guess he didn't fool the tribunal, just me.

During the war we all knew "the Moose," "El Duce," Mussolini. He was the fat guy in the brown uniform all the time shooting off his mouth. Like Hitler, he was a bodily while World War I. Hitler admired him greatly and rescued him from partisans, but near the end of World War Ii he was ultimately shot and hung out to dry in the communal quadrate in Milan. (I was there some years back. Somebody had moved the bodies.)

(For those of you who like to know such things, the Triple Alliance was a defense contract in the middle of Italy, Germany, and Austria-Hungary.)

Benito Mussolini invaded areas throughout Africa. (He used mustard gas on home guards, the only leader to use gas while the war.) He was stopped by the British. Despite the entry of Germany into the African campaign, the British, with aid from general Eisenhower, won.

The allies wanted Mussolini wholly out of the war so they invaded Sicily. It helped to take the pressure off the suffering Soviet armies and in case,granted a base for the invasion of Italy.

Listen! This is what Mussolini said in 1929:

"In the creation of a new State which is authoritarian but not absolutist, hierarchical and organic - namely, open to the habitancy in all its classes, categories and interests - lies the great revolutionary originality of Fascism, and a teaching perhaps for the whole contemporary world oscillating in the middle of the authority of the State and that of the individual, in the middle of the State and the anti-State. Like all other revolutions, the Fascist revolution has had a dramatic development but this in itself would not suffice to distinguish it. The reign of terror is not a revolution: it is only a essential instrument in a carefully phase of the revolution."

As kids, we view that Mussolini was a clown, a big fat buffoon. We had fullness of jokes about the Italian army too. We didn't think they were much of a fighting force. The Italian partisans view differently. They knew that Mussolini was an evil tyrant that had brought misery to thousands of people.

They were out to get him for sure.

Using our primary reference we read of Mussolini's death. The article is from the "Manchester Guardian:"

"30th April, 1945. Mussolini, with mistress, Clara Petacci, and twelve members of his Cabinet, were executed by partisans in a village on Lake Como yesterday afternoon, after being arrested in an attempt to cross the Swiss frontier. The bodies were brought to Milan last night. A partisan knocked at my door early this morning to tell me the news.

"We drove out to the working-class quarter of Loreto and there were the bodies heaped together with ghastly promiscuity in the open quadrate under the same fence against which one year ago fifteen partisans had been shot by their own countrymen.
"Mussolini's body lay across that of Petacci. In his dead hand had been placed the brass ensign of the Fascist Arditi. With these fourteen were also the bodies of Farinacci and Starace, two former general secretaries of the Fascist party, and Teruzzo, at one time minister of Colonies who had been caught elsewhere and executed by partisans.

"Mussolini was caught yesterday at Dongo, Lake Como, driving by himself in a car with his uniform covered by a German greatcoat. He was driving in a column of German cars to escape notice but was recognized by an Italian Customs guard.
"The others were caught in a neighboring village. They comprise Pavolini, Barracu, and other lesser lights in Fascist world on whom Mussolini had to call in later days to staff his puppet Government.

"This is the first conspicuous example of mob justice in liberated Italy. Otherwise the partisans have been kept well under operate by their leaders. The view expressed this morning by the partisan C.-in-C., general Cadorna, son of the former field marshal, was that such incidents in themselves were regrettable. Nevertheless, in this case he carefully the performance a good thing, since beloved indignation against the Fascists demanded some satisfaction. The risk of protracted trials, such as has been taking place in Rome, was thus avoided."

Mussolini's beautiful wife said after his death that he had done nothing wrong except run off with Clara Petacci.

Anyway, the Moose was dead!
